Woman dies in
Australian diving accident.
An Irish Woman,
thought to be from Donegal, has died in a diving tragedy off the coast
of north Australia.
The woman, who
was scuba diving with a group at Langford Island at the Whitsundays in
Queensland yesterday, failed to resurface.
Queensland newspaper the Daily Mercury reports that her body was
recovered by police a short time later.
Attempts to
resuscitate the woman failed and she was pronounced dead. The Brisbane
Times reports that she was on the second day of a three day boating
trip aboard the Summertime vessel, operated by Whitsunday Sailing
Adventures.
Queensland
police have said that the woman was on an introductory dive but got
separated from the team, which consisted of three divers and the
instructor.
The Department
of Foreign Affairs has confirmed that consular assistance is being
provided to the woman’s family.
